Governor of the Relic Hunters’ Guild. Founder of Hearth as it exists today.

Who He Is

Luthor Shrike is the reason Hearth is still standing.

Before the Frost settled in, he ran a minor trinket-hunting guild - small-time relic recovery, nothing heroic. When the cold started coming and the world began to crack, he stumbled onto the Hearth Engine and understood, with study, what it could do. He repurposed everything he had - his guild, his collection, his life’s work - and started feeding relics into the Engine to keep the Thermal Sphere alive. That kept Hearth warm for nine years.

Now the collection is gone. The Engine runs on active expeditions. That’s where you come in.

He didn’t ask to be the Governor. He doesn’t entirely believe he deserves the title. But he shows up every day and does the job anyway, and that stubbornness is worth more than any credential.

Appearance

Mid-30s, wiry build, heavy stubble, curly mustache. His eyes look like he hasn’t slept in three years - because he mostly hasn’t. He dresses in a mix of rugged adventurer gear and slightly-too-nice waistcoats, like a man who used to care about appearances and no longer has the time. On his right hand he wears the Thunder Gauntlet - a relic of his own crafting, the one piece of his old life he never fed to the Engine.

Personality

Direct and oddly warm, with an unplacable accent and a way of speaking that catches people off guard. He takes the work seriously but not himself - he’ll crack a joke in a tense moment and mean it. He has zero patience for hoarding, profiteering, or anyone who treats survival as a business opportunity. The Guild exists to keep people alive, and he will remind you of that if he has to.

He’s also quietly exhausted in a way he’d never admit. He over-prepares, over-explains, and works too many hours. If you look closely, the confidence has cracks.

His Role in the Guild

Shrike runs the Guild and, by extension, most of how Hearth functions. He signs off on expeditions, sets priorities, and makes the calls that nobody else wants to make. He’s the one who hired you, and is likely the first person you’ll get properly acquainted with.

He’s also Sean’s player character, on the rare occasion a different player GMs for a session!

Day-to-day, you’ll find him at the Guildhall - tinkering with something mechanical, rubbing his temples, or arguing with Selka about resource allocation. He’s approachable. He genuinely wants to know how expeditions went. He’ll remember your name.
