Detailed Summary
Introduction to Nimbound and Frost Punk
- The tutorial begins with an introduction to Nimbound, a character sheet manager, and Frost Punk, an inventory manager, with the assumption that users already know how to access Discord (00:00:10).
- Nimbound is an online character sheet manager that allows users to easily manage their character sheets, eliminating the need to print out documents, and it relies on logging in through Discord (00:01:07).
- To start using Nimbound, users need to log in by clicking on the gnome face icon and authorizing their Discord account, after which they can create a new character by going to the “characters” section (00:01:27).
- Creating a character in Nimbound involves filling out various options, such as name and portrait, and users can choose from a variety of portraits or upload their own image, with the option to loop back and change these details later (00:01:50).
Character Creation Overview
- The character creation process is straightforward, with a step-by-step guide indicated by a ninja star symbol next to each option, and users can find more information about the game and its setting on the wiki or by talking to Sean (00:02:03).
- The game takes place in a Frost Punk context, where everything is frozen over, and users can choose their character’s class, with options such as the Zephier class, which is dedicated to mastering hand-to-hand combat (00:02:55).
- Users can also customize their character’s settings, such as disabling inventory slots and choosing a backdrop, with options like icy peaks to match the game’s setting (00:03:27).
Class Selection and Game Setting
- The tutorial also mentions a new class, the hexbinder, which is available on the website, but it is not recommended for new players, and instead, users can choose from existing classes like the Zephier (00:03:46).
- Roobie is a character who wears traveling robes, has a staff, and sandals, and is presumed to wear better gear for the cold, with his class being Zeir, a puncher, and his level being set to one (00:04:23).
- The Zeir class has traits that make it good, such as its armor being equal to its dexterity plus strength as long as it’s not wearing any armor, and Roobie’s health is 13 at level one (00:04:44).
Character Traits and Stat Allocation
- The stat array is one of the big decisions when making a character sheet, with options including standard, balanced, or minmax, and Roobie’s stats are set to minmax, with high priority on dexterity and secondary priority on strength (00:05:36).
- Roobie’s key stats are dexterity and strength, and he does not need to be smart or have strong willpower, with disadvantage at intelligent saves, and his stats are set accordingly, with high dexterity, secondary strength, and low intelligence and willpower (00:06:44).
- Roobie has four skill points to spend, and his skills are set to have one point in might, which is like jumping really high or lifting a wall, and he is also finesseful and stealthy, with low perception, trusting that another player in the party will have good perception (00:07:30).
Ancestry, Size, and Background
- The character’s ancestry is a bit of a flavor thing, and Roobie is described as a rat, which influences his skills and abilities, such as his stealth and finesse (00:08:19).
- The character’s size is determined, with options including small, medium, or big, and the chosen character, Roobie, is a small rat folk, which means he is a ratman and has the ability to scurry, gaining plus two armor if he moved on his last turn (00:08:34).
- The background for Roobie is chosen, with the option of Acrobat being selected, which allows him to be thrown by a larger ally, resulting in half damage from falling and force movement, making him a useful character for sending into combat (00:09:22).
Character Sheet Review and Inventory Setup
- The starting equipment for Roobie is finalized, which is a straightforward process, and the character sheet is reviewed, showing Roobie’s details, including his name, size, and abilities, with the option to access the character sheet again by clicking a gear icon (00:09:56).
- The character sheet includes features such as hit points, initiative, armor, speed, and skills, as well as the ability to roll dice, make saves, and track wounds, with the option to roll for initiative, dexterity, and other skills (00:10:45).
- The inventory management system is mentioned, with the note that it will be covered using the Frost Punk inventory manager, rather than the built-in Nimbound system, due to the need to manage magic items that will be acquired during the game (00:11:43).
Character Abilities and Features
- The features tab on the character sheet is reviewed, showing Roobie’s abilities, including swift fists, which allows him to make unarmed strikes without disadvantage, and the damage of his fists, which is 1d4 plus strength (00:12:04).
- The character in question has no special reactions, only default reactions, which are actions that can be taken between turns, and this will be discussed further when playing (00:12:42).
- The character’s ancestry ability and background are mentioned when clicking the info section, and if boons are unlocked, they might show up here or require physical notes (00:12:55).
Inventory Management with Frost Punk
- The inventory manager is straightforward, requiring a sign-in with Discord, and once authorized, it displays a character sheet that should be opened alongside Nimbound (00:13:10).
- The character sheet displays the character’s name, which can be set up, and the amount of inventory slots is based on the character’s strength stat, which can be edited (00:13:59).
- The character’s starting gear, such as traveling robes and a staff, can be added to the inventory, and the inventory space left is tracked (00:14:36).
- The character’s inventory can be managed, and items can be added or removed, with the option to leave items in storage if they are not needed, and the guild storage has infinite space (00:15:41).
Managing Inventory Items and Storage
- Manual items can be created and added to the inventory, and as the game master, they can see everything added to the inventory, so cheating is discouraged (00:16:17).
- Hierlings, such as Stabs the Cobalt, can be added to the inventory, and they have their own inventory with pre-filled items and a gold tracker (00:16:37).
- The character in the game has a dagger and a thick warm scarf to prevent freezing, and hiring a sidekick in the game makes sense (00:16:59).
- Deleting certain items, such as stabs, can be done as needed, and the current loot pool can be viewed by all players at the same time (00:17:13).
Loot Pool and Synchronization Features
- The loot pool can contain various items like swords, daggers, and rusty hammers, and players can add these items to their inventory, with the changes being synced live (00:17:20).
- The game allows for live synchronization, enabling all players to see the same loot pool and make decisions about which items to add to their inventory, such as choosing a sword over a rusty hammer (00:17:43).
- The game master’s view may differ from the player’s view, with some features only accessible from the game master’s side, and players can reach out with questions or concerns (00:17:54).

(00:00:00) Hello and welcome to the character sheet tutorial for Nimbound. This video assumes you know how to get onto Discord (00:00:10) and that you’re connected there already. Probably I sent you a link at some point. If I didn’t, that’s on me. You (00:00:16) can text me about that. This is just going to be a quick tutorial about Nimbound and then also the Frost Punk (00:00:23) inventory manager. Both tools are pretty straightforward, but they’re just a little bit specific and especially if (00:00:29) you haven’t used them before or are new to Nimble, it might be nice just to watch someone else do it. So, let’s get (00:00:36) into that. Um, here we are on Nimbound. This is the where you’re going to start for the most part on anything related to (00:00:44) Nimble, at least as far as Frost Punk goes. This is just a online character sheet manager. We used to like print out (00:00:51) the documents and use that. um it just got tedious and I wanted people to have uh easier control of where their sheet (00:01:00) lives and that kind of thing. Um both Nimbound and uh the Frost Punk inventory manager rely on you logging into your (00:01:07) Discord. So everything’s consolidated to just Discord as your login because obviously you’re on the server for (00:01:13) figuring out scheduling. Um and then you’ll use your Discord to log into here and the inventory manager. So let’s get (00:01:20) started here. Um we’re on Nimba. We’re going to click this little gnome face up here. And that’s how we’re going to log (00:01:27) in. Uh we’re just going to authorize. So, here we are. And you’re going to go up to characters. It’ll probably tell (00:01:36) you something about like create your first character. Obviously, I create I have a test guy here. Um and you’re just (00:01:42) going to create a little person here. Um John Nimble. So, we’re going to make John Nimble here. They have a bunch of (00:01:50) um options. You could always loop back to this later um in terms of like the name and then the portrait, but uh (00:01:58) you’re going to notice here there’s this little like ninja star looking symbol next to each (00:02:03) of these things that you have to do. So, we’re just going to work top to bottom. Uh making a character nimble is super (00:02:08) straightforward. Again, if you’ve never played Nimble or are just totally new to like what’s a tabletop RPG, why am I (00:02:15) making a sheet on a website? What’s the deal with that? um talk to Sean, who is me, uh at some point. And also, there’s (00:02:25) loads of stuff on the wiki, the website that’s like linked in the Discord and all that, um that you can totally get (00:02:32) acquainted with. It’s super straightforward. Lots of stuff online. Anyways, we’re just going to make our (00:02:37) first guy here. Um there’s also a ton of portraits that they have here. um which if you would like to you can (00:02:45) you can look at that and like pick something from it. Um so obviously our game takes place in a world of frost (00:02:55) where everything’s frozen over. It’s the frost punk context. We’re going to be this little ratman. (00:03:00) Um and uh I’m not feeling Oh Roobie Leoitz. Sure. So Roobie Leawitz here. He’s uh you know, he’s been around um he made (00:03:13) it to Hearth the town probably uh out of survival and you know he’s just looking for a gig. He’s just looking for a gig. (00:03:20) Um we’re going to go up to settings here really quick and just click disable inventory slots. This is optional at (00:03:27) this point. So you can ignore the settings, but I just want to get rid of that little throwing star that was (00:03:31) there. And I’m going to pick a backdrop of icy peaks because that just matches the setting. You can see it back there, (00:03:36) but we’ll get to there. Um, first up is class. Again, you can read this on the website. Um, there is a new class that (00:03:46) is just on the website though, the hexbinder. I wouldn’t recommend that if you’re new to Nimble to play with this (00:03:52) character. Um, it’s basically a witch. Super cool though. Um, let’s see. What’s our guy? Roobie. (00:04:00) Roobie. Oh, you can also upload an image if you would like. Uh whoa. Now Roobie’s raising his hands here. We’re going to (00:04:07) say that he’s a Zephier class. He is uh um Zephr dedicates their life to the relentless pursuit of kinetic (00:04:15) perfection. He’s mastering hand-to-hand combat. Um he’s good at punching stuff and that’s what he does. He wears his (00:04:23) little traveling robes. He’s got a staff. He’s got sandals. Um, probably we’re going to presume that he probably (00:04:30) is wearing better gear for the cold, yada yada. Um, so we’re going to hit select here on the Zephr. That big old (00:04:37) button there. And now we’ve got that class. You can change at any time. But, uh, Roobie is a puncher. Roobie’s a puncher. (00:04:44) Um, now we’re at level one, so you don’t have to mess with this dial at all, but the game does go all the way to level (00:04:50) 20. If we get there, good luck. I mean, if you’re at level 20, we’re already we’re (00:04:55) reaching the end game. But, um, there’s a couple traits that make the Zeir good. He is, uh, his armor (00:05:03) is equal to his dexterity plus his strength as long as he’s not wearing any armor. Um, again, this video is not (00:05:09) covering mechanics of Nimble. There’s going to be other resources for that. This is just how to assemble a character (00:05:15) sheet. Um, so we’re going to have level set to one. This just tells you a little bit about your abilities. So, that’s (00:05:21) cool. health. Uh, at level one, our health is 13. So, that’s cool. That’s, uh, just kind of how it is. We’re going (00:05:30) to go to stats here. The stat array is one of your big decisions when you’re making a character sheet. Um, you can (00:05:36) either be a standard character. So, kind of like you have two different abilities. You can see here it says plus (00:05:42) two, plus two, plus 0, minus one. Um, that means that we have one ability we can set to plus two or sorry, two that (00:05:49) we can set to plus two. one of them to zero and one of them to minus one. Um, or you can do balanced, which means that (00:05:56) one of your abilities is plus two, one of them is plus one, another’s plus one, another’s plus zero, that kind of thing. (00:06:04) Um, so let’s make a decision here. Roobie doesn’t seem like he’s going to be a very balanced individual. So, we’re (00:06:11) gonna go back to here and we’re going to select minmax because I love the idea of him just being (00:06:20) um just unbalanced. Honestly, an unbalanced character is more fun to play. It’s fun (00:06:26) to be bad at stuff, believe it or not. Um now, it’s kind of hard to decide, okay, what do I get good at? Should I be (00:06:32) strong in strength, dexterity, intelligence, willpower, blah blah blah? Easy way to figure that out. I’m going (00:06:38) to go back to the class here. I’m going to look at the key stats. These are the abilities that are useful to this to the (00:06:44) class. So, we got dexterity and strength. Those are the key stats. Roobie does not need to be smart or have a (00:06:51) strong willpower. Um, in fact, he has disadvantage at intelligent saves, which that makes a lot of sense about him. (00:06:58) When you look at this guy, he just wants to punch stuff. Um, so we’re going to go to stats here. Minmax. Uh, so dexterity (00:07:07) was high priority for the Zeir class. Um, so we’re going to set that to max and the strength was secondary. So he’s (00:07:14) he’s pretty strong, but he is uh not the sharpest bulb in the shed as a minus one intelligence person would say. And he’s (00:07:22) not very courageous or charismatic. Those are both looped into willpower. Um, which is hilarious. There’s (00:07:30) descriptions here, too. Uh, let’s go to skills. So we have four skill points to spend. Uh, some of these are already (00:07:36) higher by default because my dexterity is high. I’ve got some good finesse. That’s like pickpocketing. That’s like (00:07:43) um uh like swiftly sliding under a door Indiana Jones style before it crushes you. All that jazz. Finess is all that. (00:07:51) Um I want him to have one point in might. Might is like jumping really high or (00:07:58) lifting a wall. It’s like strong base stuff. Um, he does not need any arcana examination, yada yada. Uh, we want to (00:08:07) be a little sneaky. Make him a little actually, let’s keep the perception low. I’m going to trust that a different (00:08:12) player in the party is going to have good perception. Um, and I’m just going to (00:08:19) let’s just do something like that. He’s he’s finesseful. Actually, he’s a rat. So, we’re going to do stealth as well. (00:08:27) Uh, next is Ancestry. Ancestry is a bit of a flavor thing. Um, it gives you, it lets you know if your character’s small (00:08:34) or medium or big. Um, there’s different creatures. Now, obviously, he’s a rat folk, which means he’s a small little (00:08:42) ratman. Uh, they are survivors thriving in the shadows of society where others fear to (00:08:48) tread. Um, and so because I’m picking rat folk, he can scurry, which means he gains plus (00:08:55) two armor. or if I with the scurry trait, it means that if I moved on my last turn, I have plus two armor, which (00:09:03) is great. Makes me a little bit tankier as long as I am moving around a lot. Um, which makes sense for a little rat guy. (00:09:12) So, we’re going to pick a background now. Uh, honestly, I have no idea what would be great for Roobie. There’s a (00:09:22) lot of stuff to look through here. All of it’s on the website, but you can also on Nim Bounge just click through here (00:09:27) and kind of pick stuff. I think Acrobat makes a lot of sense for Roobie. He’s a small guy. He can be thrown by a larger (00:09:33) ally. So, as long as you’re ally is like uh bigger than small. So, that means medium, huge, all the ones above small. (00:09:42) Uh I can be thrown really far. Half damage from falling and force movement. Um amazing. I feel like that’ll make a (00:09:50) lot of sense for just sending him into combat. Claws first. Um, we’re almost there. We just have to finalize our (00:09:56) starting equipment. This is super straightforward. This is not actually going to make a big difference, but (00:10:00) we’re going to click the add starting equipment button. And that’s good. Uh, and then all this is bonus for now. Um, (00:10:08) because anything inventory related is going to be on the Frost Punk inventory manager. So, here we are. We We’re just (00:10:15) going to hit the X button. If you ever want to reach that screen again, you just click this tiny little gear and (00:10:19) then you can go back to all of these. So, you can like stop in the middle. And here’s your character sheet. This is (00:10:24) great. Um, so we got all our stuff here. We got Roobie Lewitz right there. Little ratman. He’s a silly little guy. And (00:10:32) he’s ready to commit some crimes and to go find some treasure and places to uh it’s definitely for the sake of society. (00:10:39) That’s what he wants. Um, there’s a dice roller in here. We’re going to have real dice every session because I bring real (00:10:45) dice enough to share. Um, you got your hit points up here. If you take damage, you can uh subtract an amount and then (00:10:54) hit apply. So now I’m at nine hit points out of 13. Uh we’re just going to bump that up to full again. If you have like (00:11:00) temporary hit points, someone gives you special magic stuff. You can just raise and lower this. It’s a pretty simple (00:11:06) thing. You can roll initiative just by clicking the initiative button. Pretty cool. Keeps the game moving fast. We got (00:11:12) our armor. We got our speed. Everything’s super cool. You want to make a dexterity save? Boom. Go ahead (00:11:18) and roll for dexterity. Super cool. These numbers are here for reference. There’s your skills. You got (00:11:24) your attributes. You got your skills. You got your proficiencies. You got the language you speak. Um, you got the (00:11:30) wounds you’re taking. Very cool. I like that little vibrate it does. Um, and then over here are your features and (00:11:39) your inventory. Inventory. You almost never have to open this. We’ll cover that in a second because it’s going to (00:11:43) be on the inventory managing app. Um, there’s a reason we didn’t use just Nimbound’s bit built-in one and it has (00:11:51) to do with magic items that we will be getting on our games because I’ve built a lot of magic loot for you guys to be (00:11:59) getting. That’s kind of the whole point of this game. So, the two tabs you want to live in here is features. So, we got (00:12:04) swift fists. Uh, my unarmed strikes are not subject to disadvantage imposed by rushed attacks, which means I can spam (00:12:11) three attacks per turn. I just will not be getting disadvantage ever. Honestly, that’s so broken in early play. I love (00:12:18) it. I love how broken this game can be. And uh the damage of fist is 1d4 plus strength. So honestly, maybe I should (00:12:26) have made strength my primary thing, but 1d4 plus one, that’s fine. 1d4 plus three would have been wild, though. So (00:12:35) just good to know that if I wanted to make a buff uh zeir monk class, that could have been cool. Um he has no (00:12:42) reactions, nothing special. Well, I guess he has the default reactions. Um, these are actions you can take in (00:12:49) between your turns, yada yada. We’ll talk about that when we play. Um, anyways, yeah, bunch of stuff here. And (00:12:55) you can click info as well. This mentions your ancestry ability and then your background. Eventually, if you guys (00:13:02) unlock boons, that might show up here or you’ll just have to take physical notes um for all of that. So, let’s move on to (00:13:10) the inventory manager here. Um, it’s pretty straightforward. Once again, you’re just going to sign in with (00:13:16) Discord. Same as before. You authorize it, yada yada. (00:13:26) And here we are. You’re going to have a character sheet here. Um, and we’re going to want to open this up side (00:13:32) byside with Nimbound. If you’re an iPad user, it might be a little clunky trying to (00:13:38) have these both open, but here we are. I want both sheets open. So, I’ll do something like this. (00:13:46) It’s not great, but it works. Again, eventually they’re going to update Nimbound to have features similar to (00:13:52) what I use in the app that I built, but uh here it is. So, once you log in, you’re going to be able to set your name (00:13:59) up here. Let’s go ahead and put that as Roobie Leowitz. Um the amount of slots he has is based (00:14:06) on his strength. So, we’re going to edit the strength stat to one just for context. That one is equal to the (00:14:14) strength stat that’s over here. So, this strength stat here, it tells us what how many slots of inventory we have. So, um (00:14:21) let’s show it did not start with any gold. We’re going to go to his inventory here. Yeah, no gold, no whatever. Um (00:14:30) and we’re going to do our first setup of the Frost Punk inventory app. So, we’re just going to go over to the starting (00:14:36) gear of our uh character that was over here. So, he’s got traveling robes. We’re literally just going to go here, (00:14:43) right? Traveling robes. Hit the big old plus button. Boom. Now, we got some robes. We’re going to hit uh we have (00:14:51) staff. So, it’s two-handed and it’s a 1d8 plus strength. So, I’m literally going to write staff (00:15:00) two-handed 1d8 plus strength. Super simple. This is basically just a text list. But, and as (00:15:09) you can see, as we add stuff, this little slot style goes up just to mark how much inventory space we have left. (00:15:16) Um, he’s a cold little guy. So, we’re going to say that he has thick boots instead. We’re going to say that that (00:15:23) was the starting gear cuz based on the setting, this guy’s not going to be wearing sandals in the snow. He would (00:15:28) freeze his little dogs to death. We don’t want that. And that’s pretty much it as we play. So, for context of these (00:15:35) two little spots down here, if there’s anything you want to leave at the guild, not carry in your character inventory, (00:15:41) because uh again, there’s a limited amount of slots based on your strength stat, (00:15:46) you can go ahead and leave that storage. So, we were just talking about these boots so much. I’m just going to grab (00:15:50) this little this little guy right here and stick it in storage. This works on iPad and uh mobile as well, you can run (00:15:57) all this off of your phone. So, depending on how bad things are, how bad of a week you’ve had, if you left (00:16:03) everything at home, you can still play. So, your guild storage is infinite. They’re not they’re not no one in the (00:16:10) guild cares how much you leave at home. There’s plenty of room there. Um and you can always create manual items to add in (00:16:17) there as well. Obviously, as game master, I can see everything you’re adding to your inventory. So, like, I (00:16:23) don’t know. Don’t like try and cheat. That would just be so silly. Don’t cheat. It’s just weird. And then if you (00:16:30) have any hierlings, you can add them here. So, let’s say that we added uh Stabs the Cobalt (00:16:37) as a hierling. Um, he is an ordinary hierirling, which means he just has 10 slots, yada yada. (00:16:46) And there he is. So, we got his inventory here. They’re pre-filled. Um, he can carry certain amounts of gold. (00:16:53) This is just a little ticker for tracking your gold that you have. And he probably has a dagger (00:16:59) and thick warm scarf. Just a little guy. We don’t want him to freeze. And there you go. So, now you have your (00:17:07) little sidekick. That’s if you happen to hire one in game. That makes sense. We’ll delete stabs for now. And there (00:17:13) you go. Sometimes when we’re mid game, this current loop uh loot pool on my computer on the game master’s side, (00:17:20) you’ll see this like I’ll say that like this stuff appeared here and it’s like, oh, there’s 20 gold in the pool or like (00:17:28) well you you’ll see that number go up. Actually, because we’re in a player view, I can’t actually change this. But (00:17:32) say there’s like a sword and daggers and rusty hammer that’s in the current loot pool and you guys, all players (00:17:43) together, you’ll all be able to see this at the same time. It’s synced live and you can be like, “Yeah, I want the (00:17:47) sword. I’ll add that to my inventory.” And then moves it. Rusty hammer, yada yada. So, there you go. Thank you for (00:17:54) watching. Message me if you got any questions. Bye.
